London Facts Region:Southern England. Situated on the Thames river.
Size:Largest city in Europe. Population about 7.5 million, area 1500 km2 (600 miles2).
Climate:Summer: often warm and sunny, usually up to 27 C (80 F) in July/August, but rain is always possible. Winter: mild and wet.
History:England's capital for over 1000 years. Founded by the Romans and consolidated by William the Conqueror.
Transport:London's public transport network of tube trains, buses and local trains reaches every corner of the city and is often a lot quicker than driving.
Islington What is it?An inner-London borough 3 km north of the centre of London. Very lively with a huge restaurant / pub scene.
Centre:Islington Green (near Angel tube station) is the centre of town. There are lots of shops, cinemas, pubs, etc.
Restaurants:Upper street is one of London's best restaurant streets and is walking distance from the house (300 meters).
Parks:Highbury Fields park is 800 meters away and there is a small childrens playpark opposite the house.
Football:Arsenal, London's most famous club, plays at Emirates Stadium in Islington, about 1.5 km from the house.
Theatre:Several local theatres including the famous Saddlers Wells dance theatre.
Driving:The house is just outside the congestion charge zone, so you don't need to pay the daily toll to park here.
(But we do not recommend driving around central London - take taxis, buses & tube trains.)
Groceries:Small supermarkets on Essex Road (150 meters), larger Tescos (600 meters) - internet shopping and delivery available.
